Live Review: Lonely Boy 'I Like Disco'

21 January 2015 | 7:11 pm | Isabella T

LA Producer Lonely Boy gives us a taste of the past with new retro disco banger 'I Like Disco'.

The title of this track, 'I Like Disco', is a severe understatement. Going off the track itself, it's certain that LONELY BOY loves disco, with the song being a  fun homage to retro disco tunes and old school house.

Lonely Boy is the pseudonym of an LA producer I really can't find too much information on, the only indicator a cheeky about me description on his Soundcloud page:

"This lonely robot cares not about what genre is cool, what sub-genre is hip, what sub-genre requires jorts and stashes. Deep, dirty, dreamy or Disco, he is programmed with one objective: to send you to outer space on a rainbow made of Oprah's tears."

This wit and humour runs through 'I Like Disco', which unlike a specific fraction of dance music, doesn't care to take itself seriously. It's not some intricate work of ambient electronica or explorative minimalistic techno, its a fun funk riddled track thats primarily purpose is get its listener dancing.

'I Like Disco' is a single being released as apart of Futureboogie Recording, a Bristol club night turned label that's been putting out some seriously boogie-worthy house. it's a perfect home for the stylings and creative output of Lonely Boy.

Musically, 'I Like Disco' is a pretty straightforward house banger, it's got everything that characterised the early house of the 80s and 90s, with analogue synths and manipulated vocals samples playing a major role. It's the kind of track you'd expect to hear in some undisclosed warehouse party in England 20 years ago.

'I Like Disco' will be released on Futureboogie on the 27th of January. So if you wanna get your groove on, you know what to do.
