Live Review: Du Tonc 'Every Song'

21 January 2015 | 7:13 pm | Caitlin Medcalf

The well-seasoned pair behind Du Tonc have just put out their latest single, 'Every Song'.

One of my favourite aspects of funk and disco is that neither of them will ever die. Regardless of how much music changes and in what direction production and software goes in, it will always be a very classic genre.

DU TONC is one part MIGHTY MOUSE, and one part MATT VAN SCHIE. They make sweet, sweet disco tracks that are laced with just that little bit of funk to tip it over the edge.

Their latest single ‘Every Song’ reminds me of a band out of France that go by the name of PONY PONY RUN RUN. They make incredible funky tunes, but I think it’s the quality of the tracks that they’ve written that makes their sound so memorable to me.

‘Every Song’ is this beautiful ode to literally every song DU TONC have made together. I think it summarises them quite well, and does well in highlighting some missed accents in this new era of dance music.

They’ve brought back this imminent and extremely classic funk bass line which sets the tone for the track. The lead guitar chirping in the background on the off beat stays with you, and I think this particularly aids in solidifying the mood.

But aside from the instrumentals, it’s wonderful to hear a vocal line that fits in so well with the intention of the song too.

DU TONC are continuing to do massive things, and I think this is just a taste of both of their incredible music knowledge and understanding.
