Live Review: EMRSN 'About Love' (Official Video)

4 December 2014 | 12:00 am | Emma Jones

Melbourne future soul singer, EMRSN, has released the film clip for his latest track, 'About Love' which infuses soul and trap in the best way possible.

Melbourne soul singer EMRSN may well be a late contender for one of the most exciting artists of the year with his latest track, About Love. An infusion of bass and future soul while sampling KAYTRANDA for good measure, EMRSN demands attention, and it's time we all took notice.

Having snapped the sole support slot for none other than D'ANGELO when he was recently in the country, it's only a matter of time before the sounds of  EMRSN really catch on. The song effortlessly shows what he's made off, and his almost impossible vocal range.

The track comes in quietly, with a siren sounding before the bass kicks in. The production is flawless, and perfectly compliments the soulful sound of his voice. The skittering percussion and heavy bass overlap and warp around each other, and EMRSN's own vocals are sampled to layer upon each other. He's passionate and raw as he sings about not wanting to be lonely, and asking someone what they know about love.

The accompanying film clip is perhaps even more interesting than the song, if that's possible. Simplistic in nature, the viewer watches in black and white as EMRSN's fragmented face slides in a brick puzzle as he sings and grooves. The bricks fade in and out in time with the complex beats, and slowly move around to form the singer's face.

He was booked to play at the Melbourne leg of SOULFEST, until the local stage was unfortunately cancelled for the day. About Love is off a mixtape due out next year, titled TMRW. Although there is no set release date, it cannot come soon enough!
