Oisima On ‘Adelaide's Top Shady Zones’

1 December 2014 | 12:00 am | Amie Mulhearn

Oisima's favourite summer places to hang and keep shady in his hometown of Adelaide.

We said he was going to be an artist to watch in 2014 and he has proved us right. Modernising hip hop, incorporating smooth jazzy melodies and soft synths, his sound oozes ambient sensuality.

As part of our support for Pretty Shady, Oisima is going to tell us what he’ll be getting up to in Adelaide this summer. With rolling hills to the east and pristine beaches to the west, it’s pretty clear there’s much more to do when it’s hot in this charismatic city than roasting your years away in the sun.

Pretty Shady’s aim is to show us that it’s simple to stay safe in the sun this summer without giving up our love affair with our dazzling great outdoors, and Oisima’s insight into Adelaide backs this up. Oisima is a down to earth guy who enjoys the simple things in life, hanging out with his friends and listening to music, whether this is down at the Wheatsheaf or in the comfort of his backyard. He also seems to be somewhat of a nature boy, spotting the wildlife at the national park or hitting up a bit of late afternoon fishing at the beach.

If you’re keen to see the notorious beatsmith (and we think you should) you can catch him this December supporting WILLOW BEATS on their ‘Water’ EP tour. Now let’s take a look at his favourite hang outs:

1. Wheatsheaf Hotel

“The Wheatsheaf Hotel is the greatest pub, period. Stunning beer garden, live jazz & blues on the regular & more taps than Bunnings warehouse serving the most delicious cold beverages from around the world.”

2. Right Hand Distribution

“Right Hand Distribution is a Japanese Denim & quality garment store my good friend Andy owns in the West End of the Adelaide City. Plenty of useless banter amongst the finest of humans in an idyllic urban street curb stoop.”

3. Morialta National Park

“Always nice to get away from civilization & immerse yourself amongst nature, in the Adelaide Hills National Parks. Incredible walking trails, plenty of stunning flowers to smell & the odd wild goat & emu to keep you on your toes.”

4. Adelaide Beaches

“When we’re in the midst of a week long 40’C+ heat swell you only have one option but to get into the ocean. SA has one of the most incredible coastlines to throw a line in to hope for a snapper or two or to get some icy salt water in your day.”

5. The Stoop (aka porch daddy aka my crib)

“My porch gets a lot of love over summer. Always tons of great people dropping by for a lay in the hammock, game of cricket, a nice glass of vermentino & cold beers. Turntable in the kitchen always playing tunes through the speakers out onto the lawn always makes for perfect summer vibes.”
