Live Review: Purity Ring 'Push Pull'

7 December 2014 | 12:00 am | Lauren Payne

Purity Ring are back after a long two year break with a track called 'Push Pull'.

Corin Roddick is the mastermind behind the beautiful melodies expressed in PURITY RING tracks and now, after two years without any new music, Roddick and his vocal companion Megan James have returned with a brand new piece called  'Push Pull'.

The track firstly shows that PURITY RING aren't finished just yet. When their debut album Shrines hit us back in 2012, it was one of the biggest electronic releases of that year and just when the band had broken through the musical barriers, they disappeared only to return now with a track that just injects life back into your bloodstream.

The track has all of the wonderful sounds we heard on Shrines. Slow moving synths hover around a very intricate keyboard track that dances its way across the piece. A buzzing sample stretches itself out over the duration of 'Push Pull' not spotting for anything whilst James' vocals harmonise with her own chopped vocals creating a series of innovative layers, warping the entire vocal track.

'Push Pull' is of course only the beginning of something even more exciting. PURITY RING are planning their second album and it is due for release early next year. A release date is yet to be announced and we haven't seen any cover art either so everything remains a mystery at this point in time. We can only hope that soon we can have more PURITY RING music making our everyday lives feel more majestic.
