Live Review: Hayley Kiyoko 'This Side of Paradise' (Rogue Vogue remix)

4 December 2014 | 6:24 pm | Hollie Cunningham

Following Lost king's progressive house remix, Rogue Vogue give Hayley Kiyoko's new track 'This side of Paradise' an upbeat 90's Chicago feel.

She's a woman of many talents, from actress to dancer to singer/songwriter, Hayley Kiyoko has given her spin on the electronic-pop scene, with dreamy vocals to match the aura and title of the song 'This side of Paradise'.

We have witnessed the progressive house version created by LA duo LOST KINGS, and now its been twisted backwards into the direction of 90s Chicago.

Chicago duo, ROGUE VOGUE have adapted Hayley's ethereal, 'lie on the beach and let the waves roll over you' sort of piece into a disco/house anthem, working Hayley's vocals into their classically 90s, bouncy house sound. They have a knack for bringing the same Rogue Vogue feel to their remixes without it being repetitive or sounding like they've just shoe-horned in the vocals. Really excellent.

They first fully raised our eyebrows with their remix of 'Girls' by FRENCH HORN REBELLION, which made many appearances on a variety of mixtapes, and since then they have gone on to produce equally catchy, feel-good remixes for THE KNOCKS, SLAPTOP and Australian group MIAMI HORROR's 'Wild motion'.

Hayley brought in UK producer and songwriter James Flannigan to help create her debut EP to be released in February. The pair spent day and night in her make shift studio in her parents garage producing the EP, Hayley herself writing or co-writing the 5 tracks.
