Live Review: Floria '21'

10 December 2014 | 8:12 pm | Emma Jones

Pilerats Records release their second annual mixtape, RAT PACK #2, highlighting the best in Australian underground dance music, including Floria's '21'.

After a huge year of releases, parties, festivals, video clips and everything else in between, it goes without saying that the boys in Perth are onto something really good. Having snagged SABLEWILLOW BEATS and HAMJAM, the quality of music coming out of their young, yet established, label is nothing short of impressive.

The inaugural RAT PACK #1 featured the likes of LIDOESTARYAN HEMSWORTH and ODESZA as well as local talents LEON OSBORN and CATLIPS. After the success of this, they look set to do it again with RAT PACK #2 - this time recruiting LOWER SPECTRUMSABLEUV BOILIL JABBA and many more.

One of the stand out tracks on the collection is from Brisbane newcomer FLORIA, with his unique blend of R&B vocals and glitched out dance sensibilities. With his track, Bring It Back getting him some serious Internet love (how could it not with that seductive future-R&B?), it is now only a matter of time before he truly blows up.

His latest efforts, 21, is featured on the mixtape, and continues to show off not only his serious producer chops, but also his hugely impressive songwriting abilities.

Heavy bass sounds, lasers and soulful vocals kick things off the right way in 21. The influence of acts like THE WEEKEND or SHLOHMO don't go unnoticed, but his unique production ability is what separates him from just being another imitator. The seductive and powerful lyrics combined with his perfectly suited R&B voice show FLORIA as a real contender in the burgeoning future-R&B scene.

Simply listening to FLORIA's Soundcloud shows his sound evolving more and more as he continues his alternative R&B work. One thing is for certain, it won't be long until his sound truly catches on and he shows us what he's really made of!
