Live Review: Delroy Edwards 'Can U Get With'

11 December 2014 | 1:49 pm | Isabella T

Groove out to the new lo-fi sounds of Delroy Edward's new track 'Can U Get With'.

Everything about DELROY EDWARDS is a little vintage - from his film captured album artwork, to the cassette and vinyl sampling of his music - Edwards is the embodiment of D.I.Y, pre internet dance music. And with new EP and song "Can U Get With", Edwards is proving that 'new' doesn't always equate to 'better'.

Edwards first garnered the attention of the dance music world with his 4 Club Use Only EP. Released on Ron Morelli’s label L.I.E.S, it catapulted the little known producer's career and resulted in a series of EPs and albums. It has also helped him launch his enigmatic label 'L.A Club Resource', which have put out a series of limited edition 12 inch vinyls that coincide with Edwards' aesthetic inclination to times' past.

For this outing however, Delroy has teamed up with Gene's Liquor - an online database and store dedicated to reissuing obscure underground music and collecting old out of print cassettes. His latest 12 inch' Can U Get With' in its entirety itself sounds like a lost record, revived from the depths of some bargain bin in a record store.

Title track 'Can U Get With' is a staggering house anthems - filled with analogue synth sounds and 70s samples, it's a track that warms you with its nostalgic tendencies. Whilst its fair to say the track is a  homage to old school funk, it never crosses into banal or mockery. Instead the songs simple structure, along with its sweet lopped synths and vocals, makes for a chill, enjoyable track that takes you into a time warp.

'Can U Get With' is out now via Gene's Liquor.
