Live Review: BANKS 'Beggin' For Thread' (Salva Remix)

11 December 2014 | 1:55 pm | Emma Jones

LA producer Salva shows off his sophisticated hip hop and futuristic street sounds with the latest remix for Banks' 'Beggin' For Thread'.

One of this year's most talked about acts, BANKS, is also probably one of this year's most remixed acts with the likes of STWOBAG RAIDERSLIDO and TA-KU (plus so many more) throwing their hats in the ring to shine a new light on the dark and sultry songstress.

However, the latest remix for her track Beggin' For Thread might just be my favourite, as LA producer SALVA steps up to the plate with his "futuristic street" sounds taking the song from the bedroom to the club.

SALVA had a big hand in bring trap music to where it is now, and has been part of the RED BULL MUSIC ACADEMY since 2011. He worked alongside RL GRIME for THAT remix of KANYE WEST's Mercy, as well as transforming tracks for so many others.

After the success of his 2011 LP Complex Housing and 2013 EP Odd Furniture, and in keeping with his reputation of staying ahead of the game, SALVA released his latest record Peacemaker this year, and he released it for free! The rap mixtape was recorded at the Red Bull Studios in Los Angeles, and is brimming with some of the most reputable rappers around including FREDDIE GIBBSSCHOOLBOY QE-40 to name a few.

Leaving BANKS' sultry vocals as is, he opens up with some glitched out drum beats and atmospheric synth sounds. He then pulls the track straight onto the dancefloor at 1am, with huge cymbal crashes and pounding kick drums paired with pulsating electronic sounds. This track is nothing short of huge! The dizzying build ups continue, soaring higher and higher as he takes BANKS into underground club sounds.

BANKS gets turnt as fuck here, SALVA cherrypicks his way through electronic music like there's no such things as genres, and highlighting his sophisticated brand of trap EDM.

SALVA recently brought his Peacemaker LP to the one and only BOILER ROOM, bringing FREDDIE GIBBS and KURUPT among others for the ride. He was in Australia last year, and played alongside WAVE RACER and is the labelhead of LA label FRITE NITE. It's safe to say, the man knows what he's doing, and we can't wait to see what he comes up with next!
