Live Review: A-Trak 'Push' ft. Andrew Wyatt

11 December 2014 | 9:00 am | Emma Jones

Fools Gold labelhead A-Trak teams up with Miike Snow frontman Andrew Wyatt to bring you the piano-driven house jam that is 'Push'.

The vocals on this track might sound familiar to you as well, and that would be because A-TRAK has recruited MIIKE SNOW frontman, ANDREW WYATT along for the ride. The product of the two is an uptempo, piano-driven slice of electro-pop that I've literally listened to on repeat for the last hour.

Although it has been a while since he created an A-TRAK song per say, the label-head of FOOLS GOLD RECORDS wasn't exactly having a holiday either. He was recently working with LEX LUGER under the moniker, LOW PROS to test out his ability to bridge the gap between electronica and hip hop. He's now entering what is being called a "new chapter" of his career, with Push being first cab off the rank.

Nearing anthemic levels, this latest track is firmly rooted in house, with elements from another one of his projects (DUCK SAUCE) creeping in with the piano hooks. The track hits the ground running, starting off with the catchy piano chords, as well as pounding kick drums, and even the occasional laser.

The delicate, yet powerful falsetto of WYATT takes the track to another level entirely, as he sings about how horrible it is to "Push, Push, Push love away". This is combined with fragmented vocal samples in the hook, which is downright contagious and will be stuck in your head for days. It's the type of track that makes you dance whether you want to or not!

Just in time for the Australian summer, this earworm is designed for dancefloors. It's a throwback to A-TRAK's huge Heads Will Roll remix by THE YEAH YEAH YEAHS with it's intense thump and impossibly feel-good vibes. Here's hoping A-TRAK follows Push's irresistible feel with the rest of his new material!
