Hometown Guide: Little May on Sydney
Here at Purple Sneakers, we’ve taken pleasure in giving you guides from all different corners of the earth, ranging from the Americana south of Mississippi to Cape Town in South Africa. But today we’re taking our focus back to Australian shores, with folk trio Little May guiding us through the best of what Sydney has to offer.
LITTLE MAY are a band that need little (I’m sorry I couldn’t help myself!) introduction. The band – comprising of Liz Brummond, Hannah Field and Annie Hamilton make ethereal indie pop that’s been garnering the love of Triple J and even folk legend Rodriguez, who chose the band to support him during his Australian tour in November.
Whilst Little may are a busy touring off the back of their debut self titled EP, and taking over the globe – one sold out show at a time,- they’ll always hold a soft spot for their hometown of Sydney – and here to tell us why is Little May’s Annie Hamilton, who’s providing us with the places that make Sydney so special.
WHERE I DRINK
“There’s a new little bar in Redfern called The Bearded Tit. It has little crochet penises hanging in the windows, so cute! It’s a great place for a Friday arvo wine. “
WHERE I EAT
” ‘Cornersmith’ in Marrickville is delicious. It’s around the corner from our rehearsal studio so we sometimes go there for a sneaky mid-rehearsal snack. They make everything from scratch (including jam, cheese, etc.) and it’s pretty great.”
WHERE I RELAX
“Nothing beats sleeping on a rock at Gordon’s Bay.”
WHERE I PARTY
“GoodGod Small Club is my party place of choice. There are always awesome bands playing, they do fun trivia and they also serve Jamaican food. What more could you want?”
WHERE I IMPRESS A DATE
“Oh no, I haven’t gone on a date in a very long time. I would probably take someone to Tio’s Cervecería in Surry Hills. That way we could drinks lots of tequila which would decrease any potential first-date awkwardness.”
WHERE I CREATE
“In my bedroom!”
