Live Review: Crooked Colours ‘Capricious (Benson Remix)’

9 December 2014 | 5:33 pm | Caitlin Medcalf

Melbourne's Benson has taken on Crooked Colours' 'Capricious' and given it a deep house spin.

Three Perth natives under the moniker CROOKED COLOURS have had quite the year. Rising from the depths of the ever-growing and hugely talented scene emanating from Perth, they’re currently riding off the back of a killer EP, an incredibly huge single, multiple tours of the country and an experience like no other.

Establishing themselves live as an exceptionally flawless unit, they’ve worked hard on bringing their tracks to life with their unique set. Aside from their stunning year, their track ‘Capricious’ has garnered a whole heap of attention from fans and also other producers from all across Australia.

It in particular caught the eye of BENSON, a rad producer out of Melbourne. He’s put his own unique spin on ‘Capricious’, and has taken it from cloud nine to club nine.

Adding an element of deep house to the already positive superfluous-ness of CROOKED COLOURS’ growing electronic spectrum, BENSON’s omission of certain layers underneath the vocals and the addition of a fat, warped bassline has really lifted the song.

He’s kept elements of the original that made it so memorable, like the regretfully toned vocals, the harsh yet inviting atmosphere and a craftsmanship that sets it apart from the others so definitely.

BENSON has created something that not only stands apart, but it also has put an entirely alternate spin on CROOKED COLOURS’ already stunning jam.
