Artists To Watch In 2015: Lanks
We don’t know what Will Cumming’s 2014 New Year’s Resolution was, but surely you could’t blame us for thinking it was, “to be a legend,” right?
Working under the moniker LANKS, the 25-year old Melbourne man is an exceptionally talented producer, instrumentalist and vocalist. Aside from smashing out remix after edit for artists such as, Hopium, Deja and Echo Drama, he also managed to squeeze in his debut EP release, Thousand Piece Puzzle, earlier 2014.
Utilising his technical knowledge and marvellous skills in both electronic production and live instrumentation, this five-track vision captivates an audience seeking a story that is executed in a way not so familiar to the norm. With a very good ear, Lanks has broken down the barriers of a conventional sonic space; introducing roughly cut synth shapes to delicate vocals, vulnerable guitar lines and flute melodies fluttering about in total oblivion. Put it this way, it’s as though he’s walked into a school playground and immediately silenced the ridiculous prejudices and stereotypes that tend to separate individuals from one another.
It’s through this refreshing and mysterious songwriting that has seen the growth of Lanks‘ achievements flourish over the course of the year. From receiving well-deserved airplay on stations such as FBi Radio and Triple J, to warming up crowds for the likes of Broods and Bondax, we know it’s only the beginning of great things to come for this devoted Melbourne artist.
Catch up with Lanks HERE.
