Artists To Watch In 2015: Klo

22 December 2014 | 12:00 am | Clare Mingorance

Klo burst onto the Australian music scene earlier this year with their debut EP 'Cusp' and have showed promising things for the year to come.

It goes without saying that 2014 has been a great year of music, with some unreal talent breaking into the Australian music scene. Melbourne electronic duo KLO made their debut earlier this year with their track ‘Make Me Wonder’, and it was at this moment it became evident just how much potential the two had.

The duo followed their debut single with track releases ‘False Calls’ and more recently ‘Under Lie’, and November saw the release of their five-track EP, titled ‘Cusp’, which was released via Dot Dash/Remote Control Records.

Aside from playing a number of local Victorian shows, the duo also scored spots at Strawberry Fields Festival, Paradise Music Festival and Beyond the Valley. However, my prediction is that bigger and better things are in store for the duo.

Made up of cousins Simon Lam and Chloe Kaul, KLO is the perfect example of a duo whose skills and strengths complement one another to a tee. With Lam’s skillful production and Kaul’s soothing vocals, the two create a unique, and somewhat sensual sound of electro-pop, one that could easily be listened to for hours on end.

Although KLO have only been around for a short period of time, Lam has been putting his talent to good use for a while with his other band, jazz-inspired Melbourne trio, I’lls. His production skills however, really shine through in this latest project, and at moments his work has shown undeniable similarities to that of the extremely talented Jamie xx.

For a duo who are producing such a high standard of music so early on in their careers, it must only mean one thing... exciting times lie ahead. If dreamy synths, mesmerising vocals and beat-heavy tracks are your thing, then you'd want to keep an eye out for these two in the coming months.
