Artists To Watch In 2015: Feki

26 December 2014 | 12:00 am | Lauren Payne

This Brisbane producer is well on his way to becoming the next big electronic R'n'B legend.

You may have heard us yammer on about a few upcoming musicians from Brisbane across 2014. You may have seen us introduce you to CLN’s breakthrough single ‘Better Than’ or perhaps you’ve read about JOY, the young singer who captivated the country with her wonderful vocals on YOUNG FRANCO’s track ‘Close 2 U’.

These are just some of the talent that Brisbane has been churning out over the course of 2014, but there’s one producer who is set to do spectacular things in 2015 that you should definitely know about.

Henry Feki is a man of many talents but the one talent he has made work for him is his talent for creating soulful electronic melodies. Influenced by STWO, MR CARMACK and Perth’s very own TA-KU, FEKI has the knowledge of the R’n’B ages and is beginning to bring the genre back into the spotlight with a few house tweaks thrown in.

FEKI first caught our attention by remixing ‘Better Than’, the previously mentioned debut rack of CLN. The two artists are longtime friends and when FEKI’s remix featured on the Better Than Remix EP, it was clear that his rework was perfectly structured and had a flavour that couldn’t possibly be heard anywhere else.

The remix kept true to CLN’s original work, especially during the introduction, but after a short vocal sample you experience the full FEKI style oozing out of the chopped vocals and fast-paced synths. The track is chilled and very laid-back which his something his first collaborative track is definitely not.

Only a few weeks back FEKI released a collaborative track with his mate LUCA LUSH called ‘Club Love’ and it was this track that truly highlighted the producer’s R’n'B influences.

The track focused on dancing and the moment when you just let all of you troubles disappear and you immerse yourself in the music pulsating through your body. Chopped vocals and vibrant synths work together to create a groovy melody that quickly becomes infectious and makes you move whether you intended to or not.

FEKI has followed ‘Club Love’ up with a stellar remix of AZEALIA BANKS, which has already received over 10k plays on Soundcloud. It seems FEKI’s name is becoming more and more recognisable and soon we won’t be able to escape the smooth sounds of the Brisbane lad.
