Live Review: Flying Lotus 'Masquatch' ft. DOOM

24 November 2014 | 11:27 pm | Lauren Payne

Flying Lotus has made a new track for Grand theft Auto V and it'll be all you'll want to listen to.

FLYING LOTUS can put a tremendous melody to anything and that's probably why his new track 'Masquatch' works so well. The track is part of 176 brand new songs that have been added to the latest edition of Grand Theft Auto V and it will probably be one of the most memorable.

The last time we had someone rapping over one of FLYING LOTUS' melodies was on 'Never Catch Me'. That track saw KENDRICK LAMAR laying some very uplifting lyrics over a piano driven melody that FLYING LOTUS has crafted with a very hard-hitting beat. The piano sprinkled itself over the sturdy drums and the vocals not only worked together with the track, they basically blended into the melody, making 'Never Catch Me' a big ball of hip-hop greatness.

This time around, FLYING LOTUS has enlisted DOOM to create some lyrics for a much grittier and edgier track. 'Masquatch' opens with heavy percussion throbbing through a short television vocal sample before DOOM's deep voice booms forward. DOOM produces his haunting lyrics over a melody that seems to scream darkness. The heavy beat seems to be the defining trait of the track with smooth synths sliding over them every now and again. Twinkling samples top off 'Masquatch' and give it the eerie atmosphere that seems to compliment DOOM so much.

All of these elements create a very scary track that you still can't help but love. I wouldn't blame you if you constantly played 'Masquatch' on you car radio when you're playing Grand Theft Auto V.
