Live Review: Elderbrook 'Simmer Down' EP

27 November 2014 | 11:28 pm | Hollie Cunningham

Electronic pop newcomer Elderbrook is set to release his first EP 'Simmer Down' through Black Butter Records on 24th November

Self-taught multi-instrumentalist/musical wizard ELDERBROOK (Alex Kotz) is soon to release his first EP 'Simmer Down' with award winning record label BLACK BUTTER RECORDS, who have churned out artists like Wayward, Clean Bandit and Kidnap Kid.

The 20 year old Londoner takes a minimalistic approach, with a sparse use of percussion and synths to allow for his gentle vocals to echo through your body.

Alex displays a raw, unspoiled talent, with vocals recorded from the walls of his bathroom, his ability to completely engage and heighten all of your senses with such a simple blend of sounds is impeccable. The opening track 'Could' captures you right from the beginning, it tempts you deeper and deeper into a pensive state, perfectly melting into the more up-tempo track produced almost a year ago now, 'Rewinding'. He released another track yesterday 'How Many Times' which will be appearing on the EP, still with the same warm mellow tones but with an added jazz infusion.

As well as this EP, Elderbrook has leant his voice to a collaboration with WAYWARD to produce 'Waver' and produced a remix for Amber Run's 'I found' and Bipolar Sunshine's 'Deck Chairs on the moon'.

His vocals are reminiscent of JAMES BLAKE, and his smooth luring sound has a slight feel of SOHN and ALT-J, this being said, his productions certainly have a distinct Elderbrook signature to them, we can expect big things from this guy. 'Simmer Down' EP will be available from the 24th November.
