Live Review: Caitlyn Scarlett ‘War Cry’

9 November 2014 | 12:00 am | Caitlin Medcalf

Caitlyn Scarlett's latest effort, ‘War Cry’ is commanding in its state, but it is the huge, bass heavy production that elevates this track to new heights.

With the release of her debut single ‘Bad Love’ hitting number one on Hype Machine, as well as racking up over 180, 000 plays on SoundCloud, it’s no secret that CAITLYN SCARLETT is an absolute dynamo.

It’s the fusion of her commanding vocals with the carefully mounted production underneath that creates this sound that autonomously demands every ounce of your attention.

Her latest effort, ‘War Cry’ is similar in its commanding state, but it is the huge, bass heavy production that elevates this track to new heights. Consistent, intense in the way that it’s introduced and then further bludgeoned by a wonderful collection of vocals that sprawl together in this mass of almost dissonant sounds. But they work together in a way that this rather haunting track escalates to something so much more than that.

An absolutely killer drop is the winner here, and I feel as though the track is made most memorably by the arrangement of the song. Definitely an interesting structure, it’s consistently changing and rarely repeats itself.

CAITLYN SCARLETT has truly harnessed a sound of her own, and it’s no surprise that this track has already begun to be received so positively.
