Live Review: Flying Lotus 'Never Catch Me' ft. Kendrick Lamar (Official Video)

3 October 2014 | 7:19 pm | Lauren Payne

Flying Lotus and Kendrick Lamar have released the music video for their track 'Never Catch Me'.

As we get closer and closer to the release date of FLYING LOTUS' new LP, we've become even more excited about every new single taken from the high anticipated album that surfaces.

We've heard FLYING LOTUS' collaborative track with KENDRICK LAMAR, 'Never Catch Me', but we haven't seen a music video. Today of course, that all changes.

'Never Catch Me' has two main elements that seem to blend together extremely well. KENDRICK LAMAR's sharp rap skills comfortably lay on top of FLYING LOTUS' smooth melody that sees winding synths warping themselves around a solid drum beat. In some places the track can feel quite busy, but soon it calms itself down and brings everything back into a gliding breeze, showing the intentions behind the chaotic sections.

The music video is similar to the track. When the music becomes crowded, the characters in the video begin to dance and divert from it's chosen narrative. It's like a short break in between the morbid story lines lyrically and visually.

In the video, directed by Hiro Murai, a funeral is held for two young children. The boy and girl lay lifeless until suddenly, their eyes open and they're lifted out from their coffins and dance before the congregation. Sprinting out of the church the kids then find themselves amongst other children playing and more dancing ensues. After watching these two, you can't deny they have moves and it shows how they have sepreated from their peers as the move in unison and the other children are doing their own thing.

'Never Catch Me' is featured on FLYING LOTUS' You're Dead! LP which will be released on October 6.
