Live Review: SoundCloud Wrap: Matt Blanchard of Yes Please Records

2 October 2014 | 8:00 am | Darren Ng

Matt Blanchard of Yes Please Records divulges his preferences, inclinations and influences in this soundcloud wrap.

YES PLEASE RECORDS have been supporting the Australian electronic music scene since 2011. In their third year now, we see Matt Blanchard putting thrice as much effort as before in supporting homegrown sounds.

Devoting their time to artists like LUCIANBLOMKAMP and Guerre, these artists have gone on to higher heights, with LUCIANBLOMKAMP winning this year's FBi Northern Lights competition and getting invited to play the Iceland Airwaves Festival.

Matt Blanchard gives us an insight on his influences, preferences and inclinations, shedding light on his record-signing reasons through eight tracks.

LUCIANBLOMKAMP 'Saudade'

"This is probably my favourite song on Lucian's album, that violin just pulls at my heart string, it's absolutely stunning."

Guerre 'Deatheat'

"This was one of the first demos I received from Guerre's album, from first listen I knew it was something special. The percussion is killer!"

LUCIANBLOMKAMP 'In Time' (feat. Rosebud Leach & Robert Glaesemann)

"This one's a jazzy little number, that sax, that bouncy beat... ooooo-weeeee!"

Guerre 'Tuk' (Ta-Ku Remix)

"Ta-ku flips the original melodic R&B flavoured jam into a bumpin' trap number"

JaysWays 'Infinity' (feat. Nicole Millar)

"Another one featuring Nicole Millar. Jay is a super talented producer, I love the way this track moves around, the melancholy violin at the end is a surprising treat."

Cosmo's Midnight 'Surge' (Willow Beats Remix)

"Willow Beats hit a home run with this remix, it just oozes magic."

Fishing 'Choy Lin'

"Fishing's music is a ray of sunshine into your life. Check out their new album, it's an infectious gem."

I'lls 'Plans Only Drawn'

"I love this band. The layers and the complexity of every track are cleverly disguised behind the calm that washes over you with every listen."

If you are in need of some rad tunes and amazing party vibes, Yes Please celebrates their third birthday with a stunning line up of label acts, including LUCIANBLOMKAMP, Nicole Millar, Guerre, Goldielocks and Hubert Clark Jr. This event will be held in both Sydney and Melbourne, with the party starting earlier in Sydney on the 2nd of October at the Goodgod Small Club. Melbourne will have a fair shot with an equally wild line up on the 23rd of October at Shebeen.
