Live Review: Julio Bashmore 'Rhythm Of Auld' ft. J'Danna

22 October 2014 | 4:01 pm | Emma Jones

Julio Bashmore releases the second track off his upcoming LP due out in early 2015. The track is a disco infused house jam with soulful vocals from J'Danna.

When he's not producing tracks for UK songstress Jessie Ware, Bristol's Julio Bashmore is busy making undeniably wicked tunes of his own. Known for his penchant for house music, the beatmaker has taken a step back in time to the land of 70's disco with his latest track, Rhythm of Auld.

Featuring the soulful vocals of J'Danna, (who teamed up with Bashmore for his previously released track, Simple Love) this tune is a funky disco infused jam with just enough house influence to see the producer returning to the top of his game. It's more uptempo than the first release, but sees Bashmore stick to his guns in the house area. Where Simple Love ebbs and flows, Rhythm of Auld sees a more vocal focus.

He knows what he's doing, and the collaboration with J'Danna is pretty much flawless. Looping a slap bass and a high pitched string sample throughout, the track is more than just your average floor filler. J'Danna's vocals are layered, and at times enter a neo-soul dimension, as well as being accompanied by a male vocal loop reminiscent of a gospel singer, pleading, "I ask the Lord...". The occasional crash cymbal and claps keep the house elements in check, with the steady beat guaranteed to get you moving in no time, whether you want to or not!

Rhythm of Auld is bright and uplifting, and is the latest offering ahead of his debut LP, expected out early 2015 on his own imprint Broadwalk Records. Both released tracks are the perfect foray into "upcoming album" territory, and would definitely see him gain a lot of new fans with his way of intertwining elements and influences as if that's just the they've always been. If these tracks are anything to go by, Julio Bashmore is in for a pretty big few months, with a few festival appearances across Europe already locked in!

Here's to hoping he makes his way back to Australia in the VERY near future!
