Live Review: Clarens 'Pray'

28 October 2014 | 3:15 pm | Amie Mulhearn

French producer and new addition to Partyfine Records family Clarens releases sophomore single.

There is something in the French water that just breeds sick producers and creative folks, case in point Clarens. The Parisian native has just put out a cracker new single Pray under the watchful eye of producer Yuksek.

The story goes that Yuksek discovered a young Ousseynou Cissé while he was touring with another electro/pop outfit. Yuksek then took him under his wing (read: record label) and magic ensued.

Fast forward to the present and Clarens has now released two singles; Trust and now Pray through PartyFine Records both produced by Yuksek. Play is a funky little and slightly whimsical electro-pop number laced in some woeful RnB a sound that is very much in tune with its back story. Pray takes its inspiration from the then 18 year old Clarens as he moves a few thousand kilometres from home packing lofty musical ambitions and not much else. The overall sound is a comforting sound somewhat akin to putting on a brand new pair of socks.

While the whole thing reads like a fairy tale it really isn't. Clarens is just one talented guy that knows his way around a synthesiser. Cannot wait for more.
