Live Review: Black Vanilla 'Throw It Down'

6 October 2014 | 12:00 am | Lauren Payne

Black Vanilla have released a brand new track and it's the first to be featured on their debut EP.

It's been a busy few months for BLACK VANILLA. Whilst touring alongside nostalgic electronic duo COLLARBONES, BLACK VANILLA have been recording a few new tunes and making sure that each piece is more exciting than the next.

One of the more powerful tracks that the trio have created is 'Throw It Down' and it has just become available to stream on Soundcloud.

Marcus Whale, Lavurn Lee and Jarred Beeler have been known to create some pretty experimental tracks as BLACK VANILLA. Whilst blending together their strengths in the musical spectrum, the three producers all seem to find a healthy balance in their music, no matter what path it may take. 'Throw It Down' tends to venture more into the dance category and focuses on an energetic melody that is powered by an even stronger vocal.

Hard synths smack their way into the track with distorted vocals brooding along with it. The introduction is very edgy, but once the main vocal is brought into the mix, the piece really starts to flow and feel a lot more natural. 'Throw It Down' has a very large garage influence which becomes quite obvious when the cooler synths are added in during the first verse. The garage elements tend to soften the sharper pieces of percussion and let the vocals take control.

'Throw It Down' will be featured on BLACK VANILLA's debut EP Cloaks, which has only just been announced. The EP will feature a variety of remixes as well as originals, and will most definitely not disappoint. Cloaks will be available through Club Mod on November 21.
