Live Review: MUST DIE! 'Imprint' ft. Tkay Maidza

22 September 2014 | 11:29 pm | Darren Ng

German producer MUST DIE! employs Adelaide's own Tkay Maidza in his latest track 'Imprint' off his upcoming album, Death & Magic.

German producer Lee Austin Bates who functions under the stage name MUST DIE! has been hard at work for his upcoming album, Death & Magic, which is set for a September 30th release.

Getting signed by OWSLA, the label fronted by Sonny "Skrillex" Moore, means colossal tracks with successes in numbers and figures are expected. But one thing about German artists is that they rarely disappoint, with Zedd, Apparat and Boys Noize a few names that are thrown about.

His latest release hits a little closer to home, with 18-year-old Adelaidean Tkay Maidza lending her youthful chops to the cold-blooded bass track. Tkay Maidza has been impressive since her breakthrough set at Splendour in the Grass, with each learning model that she masters and adopts from her tours and travel, she pats them into her work, creating a sizeable gap when her talent for music-writing and age are concerned.

The track features Tkay Maidza's fresh poetry like verses, with an electrifying loop of assorted sounds and pulsation that carries enough grit and bite. Each layer brings about a new dimension from humming buzzing distortions to strapping synth works. You can be sure this track will make a brontosaurus-sized imprint on your day today.

MUST DIE!'s upcoming ten-track album titled Death & Magic comes along with tracks like 'Gem Shards' and 'Hellcat'. Be sure to hit that when it releases on September 30th.
