FBi Radio Announces 2014 Northern Lights Competition Winners

One of our favourite community initiatives, FBi Radio recently announced that they were accepting entries for their annual competition.

Aptly titled ‘Northern Lights,’ it gives bands an opportunity to submit their music to be pooled amongst hundreds of other competitors from within Australia. In partnership with Iceland Airwaves Festival, two winners were chosen to play a showcase at this year’s festival in Reykjavik this November.

As well as this incredible opportunity, the artists will be given studio time and the priceless opportunity to meet new and reputable characters within the global music industry; something that cannot really be bought, but rather earned.

The submissions went in, and from what I can imagine would have been a painstakingly incredulous task to whittle down the entries to just two artists, they’ve chosen their winners.

The winner’s of FBi Radio’s 2014 ‘Northern Lights’ competition are Melbourne’s eclectic solo producer LUCIANBLOMKAMP and Sydney’s THE WALKING WHO.

The two artists will be sent on an invaluable trip of a lifetime to further and nurture their careers, as well as their own approach to their music.

LUCIANBLOMKAMP exploded onto the scene in and wowed us all with his self-titled EP just last year. His production method translates as eerily honest, with a tinge of experimental persuasion that forces the listener outside of the traditional scopes of an electronic producer. His sound is crafty, innovative and one that doesn’t come around very often.

His debut LP ‘Post-Nature’ was released on the 15th of August, and was received with much positive critical revelry.

Sydney psych-rockers THE WALKING WHO have had an incredulously huge last two years. Releasing two EP’s, a record, supporting the likes of THE GROWLERS, KING GIZZARD & THE LIZARD WIZARD and THE DELTA RIGGS and just generally killing it across Australia, THE WALKING WHO prove that working hard gets you to great places.

Taking their hauntingly honest brand of psych rock to new heights, their sound spans the fun and jaunty to the dark and brooding characteristics of psych rock.

The ‘Northern Lights’ competition is one of many great initiatives the lovely folks over at FBi run, and it’s incredible to hear two such deserving artists are being given this opportunity.

No idea where she’ll be in 10 years, but as long as she has a good record and a glass of white wine, she’ll be sweet.
