Live Review: Thrupence 'Lessons' (Originals Mixtape 4)

7 August 2014 | 3:45 pm | Adriana Barro

We check out a new track from Thrupence in preparation for the 4th conceptual album from the master of atmospheric electronica.

Melbourne based producer JACK VANZET otherwise known as THRUPENCE, the curator of spacious, dizzying electronica, is gearing up for the release of his brand new fourth album 'Lessons' in late September.

The 17-track long album will be released on the 26th of the month, and in preparation THRUPENCE has given us a taste tester, and damn it tastes good...

'Don't You Mind' is the third track off the album, and it gives a little insight into what we should be expecting from 'Lessons'. The track is a woozy, down tempo mash up of samples and slow beats that take 'easy listening' to a whole new level. 'Don't You Mind' starts off with choppy samples of floaty strings before the beat kicks in. The old school vocal sample used throughout brings to mind artists like FLYING LOTUS and even a throwback to some old MOBY vibes, as THRUPENCE once again shows his skills in the chilled out, atmospheric realm of the music world. The track is short, but it's just enough to help get you excited for the 16 other tracks THRUPENCE has put together for the album.

Everything from the writing, production and even album artwork was done by THRUPENCE himself which only highlights the passion this guy has for his craft.

'Lessons' is now up for pre-order via bandcamp, and will be made available as both a digital album and as a limited edition coloured 12" LP.
