Live Review: SOUNDCLOUD WRAP: Moon Holiday

27 August 2014 | 12:22 am | Sebastian Henry-Jones

This week we had Moon Holiday curate a SoundCloud Wrap for us, so as to familiarise ourselves with some of the sounds that colour the young star’s world.

Following a couple of very successful years and the widespread popularity of her recent single ‘Rid U’, Alex Ward, better known as Moon Holiday is very much an artist on the rise.

This week we were lucky enough to have her curate a SoundCloud Wrap for us, so as to familiarise ourselves with some of the sounds that colour the young star’s world.

When she’s not making tear-inducingly beautiful, lucid music, the Sydneysider can be found listening to a truly eclectic mix of noises as this excellent selection shows.

HTRK 'Poison' (Mika Vainio Remix)

"Everyone who knows me musically knows I love HTRK. I put in this remix both because I love it, and to mix it up a little. People into mind-expanding mixes should also look into the ones HTRK put together. Journeys."

Collarbones 'Turning'

"Don't you know that I love the way that I'm turning / You make me feel like someone new' - those lyrics struck me like a ton of bricks. It's a song with that potent mix of sadness and excitement for the future. Plus it sounds fucking amazing."

Jessy Lanza 'You And Me'

"I am a huuuuuuge Hyperdub fan. This song with its subaquatic samples and her sexy voice was in my headphones the other day when I ran home in a rain shower, so it gets to represent my Hyperdub obsession."

Ayshay 'Warn U'

"Also a big fan of Tri-Angle records' output, and this is an old track now.. But it never really leaves my inspiration bank. Ayshay is Fatima Al Qadiri's other project. The video for this track is amazing, all Kuwaiti hotel lobby marble and menacing overtones."

Tinashe 'Days In The West' (Drake cover, Ekali remix)

"Lush power track. Have had a lot of great times blasting this one in the car. Which is my favourite ever thing to do."

Fennesz & Ryuichi Sakamoto - '0322'

"This is the opposite to driving around pumping big vocals. The whole Flumina album is the best 're-set' button when you're feeling weary and confused by music."

Tirzah 'Slow Jam'

"Tirzah has a new EP out, which I love, but this is my favourite track. Produced by Micachu, this is woozy and honest and contemplative."

Cassius Select 'Bruv'

"Story I told Lavurn (Cassius Select) - I was nannying for a while, and had FBI Radio on in the car driving the kids to school. 'Bruv' playing on the morning show. 7 year old asks me "Alex, what does a robber look like?" I said "That depends, why do you ask?" and she answered "This song sounds like crime." Fair. Touring around Aus with this unholiness Sept & Oct! :-D"

Moon Holiday will embark on her first national tour next month alongside fellow Sydney producer Cassius Select for the following dates:

12th SEP

Melbourne

13th SEP

Sydney

19th SEP

Brisbane

3rd OCT

Format Fest, Adelaide
