A Quick Purple Sneakers Wrap Up Of Splendour In The Grass 2014

SITG

The huge Purple Sneakers bus pulled up at the gates of Splendour In The Grass, unloaded its team of writers, editors, founders & friends and drove off into the darkness as the commuters eagerly danced off into the woods together.

They galloped to the natural amphitheatre, clinked bevvies at the numerous bars and gave warm hugs to the lost and found members who had made their way back to the Purple Sneakers camp.

Experiencing the terrors of an arson fuelled, multi-boobed whale, leaving their minds at the entrance of the Tipi Forest and opening up their spiritual side within the 8+ walls of the Tent Of Miracles, the crew have come back with an abundance of stories to tell. Here’s what we brought home from Splendour In The Grass 2014.

Tony “Pervert” Kingston

Best act: Foals
Best stage: Mix Up
Favourite memory: The constant boobies out during Outkast!
Lesson learnt: Appreciate the very little time you have with people because you probably won’t see them again at the festival.

Alex Whitney 3000

Best act: Outkast
Best stage: Mad Mex Tent
Favourite memory: Oukast playing ‘Intn’l Players Anthem’ like it was no big deal – RIP Pimp C.
Lesson learnt: You don’t need to travel to Europe / USA to get the big festival experience. Every act brought their A game and loads of special guests.

Jess[unny] Holton

Best act: Foals
Best stage: Red Bull Music Academy
Favourite memory: Lying in the afternoon sun watching Grouplove.
Lesson learnt: I’ve learnt never to underestimate the impact that a giant whale covered in tits will have on everyone’s inner psyche.

Lauren Payne, No Gain

Best act: Peking Duk
Best stage: Mix Up
Favourite memory: Hopping on my mate Josh’s shoulders at Hot Dub Time Machine absolutely going crazy.
Lesson learnt: It’s better not knowing what’s going to happen.

Caitlin Med[itative]calf

Best act: Courtney Barnett
Best stage: Mix Up
Favourite memory: Tearing up to ‘Spanish Sahara’ during Foals’ set, such a spiritual song.
Lesson learnt: Australian artists are definitely standing out at the moment, and I think it’s moments like Splendour where they come together and we really see the strangth.

Martin-a-k-hole Novosel (Purple Sneakers Founder)

Best act: Metronomy
Best stage: Mix Up
Favourite memory: Saturday night after party at Studios 301 with Indian Summer, Motez, Kilter, Golden Features and the Sweat It Out! / Maker lads!!!
Lesson Learnt: A “helluva” lot.

Darren “Floories” Ng

Best act: Ball Park Music
Best stage: GW Mclennan
Favourite memory: Cuddling up by the bonfire with complete strangers and singing to Ben Howard.
Lesson learnt: Don’t eat the drugs you find on the floor.

Hannah “Tardy Idiot” Galvin

Best act: Darkside
Best stage: GW Mclennan (shoutouts to the Tent Of Miracles tho)
Favourite memory: Probably dancing along to a timeline of hits at Hot Dub Time Machine with my mains OR hanging with my best friend from high school properly for the first time in three years at Mikhael Paskalev.
Lesson learnt: If you plan on going for a swim at the beach in Byron Bay each morning of the festival, best do it before midday to avoid missing out on some of your “must-see” acts 🙁
