Live Review: Movement 'Ivory' (Official Video)

31 July 2014 | 3:13 pm | Adriana Barro

NSFW takes on a whole new meaning with this artistic, delicate display of human intimacy for MOVEMENT's 'Ivory'.

In one of the most delicate displays of NSFW video content available, Sydney trio MOVEMENT have allowed their standout track 'Ivory' from their debut EP to undergo visual treatment by Fleur & Manu. The directorial duo have previously worked amongst names such as M83, GESAFFELSTEIN and SEBASTIEN TELLIER.

Ivory is a heavily sensuous, rich track from the EP that was released earlier in the year via Modular Recordings. Breathy R&B sounds float between pulsating piano beats and the stripped back guitar licks that close out the song only add to the raw feelings of emotion this song embodies. For this reason, the overarching theme of sexuality within the film clip does not feel out of place. Fleur & Manu have definitely pushed these visuals to the boundary line, and then some, but nothing about the obvious, and only real focal point of the clip being about sexual intimacy comes as a shock or a discomfort to the viewer.

The camera work, pace, colour and use of pauses to capture intimate still frames highlight the fragility of human interaction. Close up shots of skin, hair, eyelashes, amongst the abstract, architectural shots along with swirls of marbling paint liken this to a psychedelic, out of body experience which enables this film clip to live up to the lush sounds of MOVEMENT's 'Ivory.'

Prepare to be engulfed by this organic sensual overload which gives late night SBS foreign films more than a run for their money, but remember, the NSFW warning is not being used lightly on this one.
