Live Review: Lil Silva 'Mabel' (Official Video)

9 July 2014 | 6:51 pm | Alean Penaflor

Lil Silva's video for track 'Mabel' demonstrates the simplistic beauty that comes from the most ordinary of situations.

TJ Carter has been dubbed as one of the UK's most innovative producers, working under the pseudonym of LIL SILVA. Making music since the age of ten, Carter began performing at 16, with his sound taking a basis in grime and garage.

Slowly it evolved along with the current music trends and his age, solidifying to his present reputation for soul/RNB-pop vibes.

If more proof was needed for his current standing in the bass-pop scene, then look no further than the fact Carter is the main producer behind BANKSdebut album, Goddess. Associations aside, a new LIL SILVA EP is in the works and title track  Mabel (which is an ode to Carter's grandmother) now has a music video to accompany it.

The song's gentle nature thematically runs throughout the video, as the clip follows several kids at the tail end of a school day. As the guitar lullaby sails through the introduction, we're immersed in the patchy vision of a tall-grassed field, as seen through a crochet quilt-work moving in the wind.

With the organic melody slowly morphing into the futuristic vibes, we're also transported into a more man-made setting; a suburban English town. Uniforms adorned with goodbyes and well wishes are seen on three adolescent girls, young men playing a game of soccer and a boy dancing in an empty park; these ordinary situations bring about a sense of comfort and even a nostalgic beauty to the track.
