Live Review: Olympic Ayres 'Control' (Pat Lok Remix)

17 July 2014 | 11:41 pm | Alean Penaflor

Sydney 'genre spanners' Olympic Ayres get the Canadian touch with Pat Lok's remix of their tune, 'Control'.

Sydney's OLYMPIC AYRES find themselves in the makeover chair and in the trusty hands of groove-wizard, PAT LOK.  The Vancouver-based producer takes the funk from the band's single 'Control' and amplifies it by ten-fold, shifting its indie-pop roots into a certifiably danceable remix.

Taken from the production duo's EP, Leisureplex, this 'Control' remix is kicked up to a comfortable, head bopping and body swaying tempo, as its  lo-fi and filtered start eases into its full sonic quality. The solid bass-line sets the pace, as each thud is interwoven with the main samples, intricate sprinkling of vocal echoes, swirling synth work and a cheeky saxophone riff to see the song out.

PAT LOK's signature trait of seamlessly melding piano melodies into an electronic, nu-disco soundscape is at large once more and my god, is it good. So forget your pre-drinks people, this party's all good to go.
