Live Review: Dream Koala 'Saturn Boy' (Kid Simpl Remix)

14 July 2014 | 11:59 pm | Lauren Payne

Dream Koala's entrancing track 'Saturn Boy' has had another interpretation released that brings it into a more digital light.

Brazilian/Parisian producer DREAM KOALA released his Earth.Home.Destroyed EP a while back and the collection of tracks both soothed and entranced us as the lonely sounds drifted off into very spacious soundscapes.

One of the more popular tracks on the EP, 'Saturn Boy', has been remixed by KID SIMPL and it's new face still has a similar identity to the original.

DREAM KOALA originally created 'Saturn Boy' with a very dark storyline. On his Soundcloud page, the 19-year-old producer explains that:

"The storyline paints a future where all the animals disappeared from Earth, where the oceans are devouring the continents and where the harmony of nature was broken by humans”.

It's pretty heavy, but it still gives the producer a series of events to centre his piece on and it's soothing vocals, twinkling synths and beaming melodies produce a wonderful track that's out of this world.

KID SIMPL's remix paints a more uplifting picture of 'Saturn Boy' with things sounding a lot more promising than the original mix. The vocals have been distorted slightly and do sound otherworldly, keeping true to DREAM KOALA's vision and with the added effect of scattered samples and a heavier beat, the track is given a new life that feels more digital but still just as ghostly.

The samples patter and crash across KID SIMPL's new sound scape sometimes confusing you and other times flowing nicely. These elements may not feel like they belong at first, but soon you realise that they are just painting another picture of what DREAM KOALA explained in his explanation of 'Saturn Boy', it's just a more chaotic interpretation of the same story.
