Live Review: Crooked Colours 'Keep Your Mouth For Lying' (CLN Remix)

11 July 2014 | 5:05 pm | Lauren Payne

CLN has remixed Crooked Colours track 'Keep Your Mouth For Lying' and they both have some very similar elements.

The CROOKED COLOURS boys have had a pretty exciting year so far. Since the releases of their In Your Bones EP, the Perth trio have been constantly touring around the country and getting their songs stuck in your hearts.

Many remixes of their tunes have surfaced over the past few months and we have yet another one for you today that you will no doubt love. The new remix is for the track 'Keep Your Mouth For Lying' and the producer behind this rework is CLN, who we've come to know from his stellar original work.

CLN, like CROOKED COLOURS, has been having a pretty good year. His single 'Better Than' was being played constantly around the country and his remixes have also been on point. When you mix to great upcoming acts together for a remix, you're bound to receive something really special and luckily we did this time around. 'Keep Your Mouth For Lying' is originally a very interesting track that focuses on a very sweet percussion set and vocal mix. Slight distortions are apparent throughout the track but don't drown it keeping things sounding very organic and clean.

The remix is very similar in the way that minimal elements have come together to create a great piece of music. The percussion mix has been replaced by a harder drum sound and the vocal mix remains just as serene as the original track except with a few chopped pieces being used to push the piece along. The track keeps things very simple and CLN has worked with a very simple palette of sounds to create something that sounds very spacious and powerful.

Both the remix and original track for 'Keep Your Mouth For Lying' show how a few simple elements can create a great track just as easily as a large collection of elements. CLN remixed the track well and the final product is one that will last a very long time.
