Live Review: Willow Beats 'Merewif'

23 June 2014 | 4:57 pm | Lauren Payne

Willow Beats have made a spectacular return to our ears with their latest track 'Merewif'.

If you have ever seen WILLOW BEATS perform live you can see how wonderfully ethereal the duo are whilst crooning the lyrics to 'Alchemy' and 'Blue'.

Narayana Johnson and Kalyani Mumtaz have not released a new single in over a year, since then we've been lost in their already pristine sounds that just seem to calm down the stressful days. Now our wait for new material is over.

'Merewif' is a strong return from WILLOW BEATS, as the magical vocals soar over chopped water samples and droplets of house synths that just create a melody that you cant hear from anyone else. The unique sound of the track eminds us how inventive the duo actually are as they combine Hare Krishna folklore with tribal electronica, twinkling synths and tough bass lines. There is a mixture of different elements creating 'Merewif' and although each of them have their own special personalities, they seem to come together incredibly well to create this track.

'Merewif' will be available as a single through iTunes on June 27 and as for the EP, we shall patiently wait until it emerges.
