Live Review: Slow Magic ‘Girls’

24 June 2014 | 5:42 pm | Caitlin Medcalf

Slow Magic's latest offering titled ‘Girls’ leaves for dead any uncertainties you may have previously had about the artist.

SLOW MAGIC is the ultimate enigma. Think back to your childhood days, and reclaim that imaginary friend you had that urged you to fall asleep at night or to start fires. This producer is the imaginary friend you wish you had.

Choosing to unspool his dreamy batch of synth-pop meets-dreamy-electronic palaces of sounds under the moniker of SLOW MAGIC, it’s interesting to describe what his sound has come to be. Citing influences such as SIGUR ROS and KINGS OF CONVENIENCE, his categorically debatable sound seems to be the result of a life of music.

SLOW MAGIC’s latest offering titled ‘Girls’ leaves for dead any uncertainties you may have previously had about the artist. Released through Downtown Records, the track is exciting in its total enigmatic virtue. And it’s definitely all the more interesting to hear from an artist you know almost nothing about.

‘Girls’ is a heaven of synths that soar blissfully above the sampled vocal melody. Showcasing blissful twinkles of sound and colour hear or there, the beauty is in the detail. SLOW MAGIC gives you the absolute illusion of precision for the first half of the track, but it is the allusion to the back half of the track that makes it so special.
