Live Review: Secondcity 'I Wanna Feel' (Frames Late Night Dub Mix)

1 June 2014 | 12:00 am | Nick Luke

Once again, from Sydney's burgeoning house scene returns producer Frames, with a brand new remix of Secondcity's 'I Wanna Feel'.

Back once again, emerging from the underground currents of Sydney's bubbling House is the spectacled beat-scientist known as FRAMES.

Being nothing short of bloody prolific of late in terms of his musical output, it really comes as no surprise that the seasoned producer would be hitting us with some more excellent tun-age real soon. Expectations aside, his new tune has blown us out of the water, yet again. Dammit FRAMES, y u gotta be so funky?

With releasing two EP's just in the last few months under two separate Sydney-based labels (Sweat It Out and Blotter Artists, respectively), it's safe to say that FRAMES has been going HAM in the studio lately, and he's showed no signs of slowing down with his latest remix.

Working his magic into the new SECONDCITY piano house choon 'I Wanna Feel' - which coincidentally just went #1 in the UK - FRAMES takes the upbeat track and pulls it back to a smooth, silken construction, full to the brim with pulsing bass movements, classic drum machine patterns, and retro house pad stabs.

All these sounds congeal together to create a thick and luscious soundscape that slots perfectly into place when in conjunction with the title 'Late Night Dub Mix'. As much as the remix is rich and full with enveloping composition, there is also at the same time a well placed sense of sparseness and minimalism.

This finely tuned balance between these two sounds provide a perfect example of where FRAMES really shines as a producer, exploring vast territories between sound and space, whilst still keeping the groove locked down so we can all get down on the d-floor.
