Live Review: Wax Witches 'Serotonin Syndrome'

23 May 2014 | 3:20 pm | Lauren Payne

Wax Witches, the brainchild of Alex Wall, have released the second track from their forthcoming LP called 'Serotonin Syndrome'

Over in New York City's trendy suburb of Brooklyn, our friend Alex Wall has been recording track after track for his latest WAX WITCHES album. With the new LP dropping this July, it's no surprise that singles have now begun to slip out from the musician, artist and photographer's personal files into the blogosphere.

With American label Burger Records releasing the first track on Wall's album 'Social Introvert' not long ago, we now have 'Serotonin Syndrome' to listen to giving us another glimpse of what we will hear on the new WAX WITCHES album.

When 'Social Introvert' was cast upon the world, we heard a new sound from WAX WITCHES that wasn't totally there on the first LP, Celebrity Beatings. The first album was raw and hard however these new tracks have been carefully laid out and ironed, making the creases that we used to identify WAX WITCHES with almost disappear. 'Serotonin Syndrome' has a different atmosphere to 'Social Introvert' as it sounds like it venture into a heavier psychedelic territory. The first single also had a psychedelic feel, however it was the 1990's summer vibes that dominated the track.

With a slower pace and Wall's signature vocal slur, 'Serotonin Syndrome' sounds very much like a charging ballad. The track has very simple lyrics and a vibe that is very easy and relaxed. Nodding your head along to the solid beat is something you can't help but do as the crunching guitars carry their chords along a very light path that the song creates for itself. This is more of a sweeter offering from WAX WITCHES and proves that again, Wall has delivered a brand new track that sounds refreshing, standing out against modern music.

WAX WITCHES' second album, Centre Of Your Universe, will be released on July 4 through Inertia and will hopefully bring young Alex Wall back to Australia for some more WAX WITCHES madness which we all miss.
