Live Review: Swick & Lewis Cancut 'Arm Up' ft. Tkay Maidza

22 May 2014 | 11:48 am | Gavin Butler

Some might know Swick by way of his collaborations with Astronomar and Diplo. Introducing 'Arm Up': the sweatiest, most exhilarating triple-threat this side of Wrestlemania.

Some might know Melburnian beatster SWICK by way of his collaborations with ASTRONOMAR and, more recently, a fabled track with DIPLO through Mad Decent. Some might know prince of the jungle LEWIS CANCUT by way of his collaborations with SWICK, including a remix of said DIPLO track.

Others might know them both through their CANT SAY Melbourne residencies. Everyone will know Adelaidean TKAY MAIDZA.

Introducing 'Arm Up': the sweatiest, most exhilarating triple-threat this side of Wrestle-mania. Following the 'Horse Code' EP, SWICK and ASTRONOMAR's 2012 collaborative release through the 'Enchufada' label, the young antipodean has returned to the lovely lanes of Lisbon to drop this killer, blood-warming beat. And he's brought his pals with him.

This track's rich with the kind of exotic bass-and-siren sound that first pricked up DIPLO's golden ears; the tropical percussion undertones that CANCUT somehow makes his own; and an AZEALIA BANKS-style rap flow.

It's the kind of vocal feature that turns a cracker of a track into a disco biscuit: a deft-tongued tirade shuffling effortlessly across the heaving samples and drum loops, a literal call-to-arms hook, and enough heroine swag to make JAY Z stop the elevator.
