Live Review: Leisure Suite ‘Great Expectations’

LEISURE SUITE are pretty much the audible embodiment of BEAT CONNECTION and CAT POWER, what with their stunning airy vocals, and the minimalist-yet-melodic sounds they’ve produced.

The trio resides in the inner-west of Melbourne, and only began making music together a short time ago.

What’s interesting about the emergence of their sound is that they’ve successfully contrasted this oriental guitar riff with the stunning dreaminess emanating from around vocalist Bridgette Le’s voice. But even more so, have then paired this contrast with a stunning electronic arrangement to match.

Their debut single, ‘Great Expectations’ embodies all of these things. The track itself floats serenely atop a wandering synth line, and is prominently accentuated by the tings, clangs and wobbles of the melodic guitar riff. The vocals act as a catalyst for the depth of the song, and with the terraced dynamics occurring throughout the entirety of the song, comes a sound that feels whole and complete by the time you reach the end.

So although LEISURE SUITE are only new to the game, they’ve certainly come out swinging, and ‘Great Expectations’ seems to be a soothing taste of what’s about to come from the trio.
