Live Review: Crooked Colours 'In Your Bones' (Sampology Remix)

CROOKED COLOURS only just released their debut EP and have already received plenty of recognition for it. As with many of the other Sweat It Out! signings, these boys have something awesome to bring to the table and trio from Perth have more to come in the next few months with their first national headline tour kicking off.

After already being remixed by YOLANDA BE COOL, YOUNG FRANCO, CHEIFS, WORDLIFE, PALACE and plenty more, CROOKED COLOURS have found a loyal audience amongst their fellow musicians and yet another has stepped up to remix their track 'In Your Bones' and will be added to the already extensive list of producers who love CROOKED COLOURS.

Brisbane audio-visual demon SAMPOLOGY has taken the reigns on this new remix after only just commencing his own national tour. The producer knows how to get a crowd going and if you've heard his collaborations with fellow Brisbane-ite DJ BUTCHER, then you'll know exactly what I mean. SAMPOLOGY has taken 'In Your Bones' and transformed it into a slow dance jam that will accompany your afternoons and sunsets perfectly.

The original mix for 'In Your Bones' has a bit of a mechanical feel with with steady percussion leading the track all the way through. The soft vocals loosen it up a tad but the minimalist track still has a bit of a funky melody that SAMPOLOGY has really stayed quite true to. The producer has added in a few tropical synths and light marimbas that echo throughout his 'In Your Bones' remix and the vocals have been chopped to suit the melody which now sounds a lot fuller.

Usually SAMPOLOGY delivers some pretty crazy and energetic tracks but this particular mix is tame and has a lot of power hidden underneath it. It still has the mechanical nature that you hear in the original, however with all of the beaming synths and shimmering samples, 'In Your Bones' sounds more like a collective of elements that work off each other.

After CROOKED COLOURS finish supporting the mighty RUFUS throughout May and June, july sees the band travel out onto their own tour. the dates are below and we'll be sure to catch you all at one stop or another:
