We ‘Wooo[ed]’ with Sexy Beach and wanted you and your ‘F(r)iends’ on Social Atoms back in 2011. We weren’t brought down the following year with ‘Fuck It‘ and basically tried ignoring the threesome taking place on the top bunk of Smile last year.

So what’s next on the cards for the undeniably loveable DUNE RATS? Their self-titled album release landing in June this year!

Hibernating in Brett Jansch (the latest Dunie)’s parent’s beach shed, the boys wrote the debut full-length over the course of a month before heading down to a Melbourne studio to record the body of work as quickly as they could. With recent news that the album is set to drop at the start of “Dune”, the lads have just dropped the album’s leading single, ‘Funny Guy’.

Resonating with Katrina & The Waves‘ ‘Walking On Sunshine’, vocalist Danny Beus exhales a heightened, “owww” to open ‘Funny Guy’. Leaving the woodwind instruments at home, this is as far as the similarities go; though is still a song Jack Black may consider putting on his Monday Morning Tape.

Just like we’ve heard [more predominantly] on their earlier EPs, Dune Rats have again somehow managed to incorporate themes of both jollity and nostalgia in the progressive guitar work alone. Working with the addition of thrashy drums, subtle bass and lyricism that pretty much tells the respondent not to be a dick, it’s a tune coming from a real place, and is an exciting first taste of what we can expect from the entirety of Dune Rats‘ debut album – available on Sunday, 1st June.

To follow the release of the LP and properly welcome the dudes back from touring extensively overseas, Dune Rats have just announced their national Australian tour to take place throughout the month of June Dune. Tickets available now via their WEBSITE.
