Frank Ocean, Diplo, Mick Jones & Paul Simonon Collab On ‘Hero’
Ever dreamed of members from THE CLASH genre-hopping to musically tee-up with producers and r’n’b artists decades after their most prominent activity?
Well Converse have successfully transferred this wonder into reality, as MICK JONES, PAUL SIMONON, DIPLO and FRANK OCEAN have created a song together for the Three Artists, One Song project!
If you’re yet to come across the campaign, Three Artists, One Song‘s aim is to form a union between three completely separate artists that, in a way, represent different genres. From here, they invent a song that showcases and celebrates their unique musical strengths. For greater insight, the team have previously placed Bethany Cosentino (Best Coast), Kid Cudi and Rostam Batmanglij (Vampire Weekend) together, as well as Damon Albarn (Gorillaz), Andre 3000 (Outkast) and James Murphy (LCD Soundsystem). In this case, Converse garnered not three, but four artists [with both Jones and Simonon contributing from the same perspective] to create their forward-thinking track, ‘Hero’.
Opening with the delicate crackle of a vinyl format over the gentle sway of a velvet guitar, the track is heralded by the silk of Frank Ocean‘s rich vocals. Alongside the general instrumental makeup of ‘Hero’ thanks to the work of The Clash gents, Diplo has sprinkled some magical production work into the mix to complete this sonic delicacy. After this blissful composition beautifully exhales for the earlier part, ‘Hero’ soon blossoms into an absolute anthem, acquiring the talent of West Los Angeles’ Children’s Choir and an explosion of sound, before majestically fading out in the same way ‘Hero’ let us in.
