Splendour In The Grass 2014 Rumour Mill

10 February 2014 | 1:16 pm | Tony Kingston

We thought we'd do some research and come up with a list of artists who could potentially be playing Splendour In The Grass this year.

The 2014 Splendour In The Grass line up appears to be just around the corner so we decided to do a bit of research in order to make a few predictions on this year's bill.

Here's a list of artists we think might play:

OUTKAST

Last month the legendary OUTKAST announced they'd be returning to the stage with a full festival run of over 40 dates to celebrate the 20 year anniversary of 'Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik!'. Like everybody else, we think they're a prime candidate to headline this year's Splendour In The Grass and if they play we believe it's quite possible tickets will be back to selling out in a number of minutes. Here are a few words from the hip hop duo in relation to their live reformation:

"Returning to the stage together is the most exciting way for us to thank everyone for their 20 years of supporting Outkast.” – ANDRE 3000

"I'm looking forward to rocking the stage with my Bro Ski and to all the fans - stank you smelly much, this is for y'all!" – BIG BOI

BECK

The last occasion we saw BECK in the country was for the now defunct Harvest Festival in 2012 and with a new album coming out this month we think he had to be on the festival's radar. We think he'd be a perfect fit to play second last on the Supertop stage, what do you think?

BOMBAY BICYCLE CLUB

Last month we quizzed BOMBAY BICYCLE CLUB bassist Ed Nash on what the band will be up to in 2014 and he mentioned that they'll be doing lots of touring and that he'd like to get to Australia as soon as possible. With a new album out and two successful Australian tours in 2012 and 2013, we think it would be ideal timing for them to return to our shores in 2014, this time for SITG!

FOSTER THE PEOPLE

Splendour organisers Secret Sounds posted FOSTER THE PEOPLE's new video for 'Coming Of Age' just last week so we think that's definitely a good sign! They played on the Mix Up stage at the festival in 2011 and have a new album titled 'Supermodel' coming out in March. Could this be the year the band get an upgrade to the Supertop? Lets hope so!

BROKEN BELLS

Brian Burton, who is known to the majority of people as DANGER MOUSE and James Mercer, the lead vocalist and guitarist of THE SHINS are BROKEN BELLS. As far as we're aware, they've never toured Australia since their formation in late 2009. THE SHINS on the other hand played Splendour In The Grass in 2007 and 2012. Fingers crossed they make the trip down under for this year's event!

BLOOD ORANGE

The last time BLOOD ORANGE toured Australia was in 2012 and it was presented by Secret Sounds. Since then, Dev Hynes has gained a large amount of popularity around the world so we think it's time for him to play a big festival show in Australia. He also played the festival way back in 2008 as LIGHTSPEED CHAMPION so rest assured, the organisers have a pretty decent relationship with the man.
