Live Review: LISTEN: Cam'ron & A-Trak 'Humphrey'

30 January 2014 | 12:06 pm | Nick Luke

Legendary rapper CAM'RON and Fool's Gold owner A-TRAK get together on a track in anticipation for their upcoming collaborative EP.

IT'S KILLA SEASON. Harlem-based rapper Camron (More commonly known as CAM'RON) has teamed up with the grandaddy of FOOL'S GOLD records, DJ A-TRAK to bring us all a slice of pure gold hip-hop.

I think this qualifies as the very definition of 'unexpected collaboration'. That being said though, once you see the two names together on a track something clicks and it all makes sense. Universe in harmony.

Co-produced by PARTY SUPPLIES alongside A-TRAK, the track is centred around a soul R&B sample slapped against a heavy hitting layer of sub-bass. The instrumental samples acts as a perfect bed for CAM'RON's slick lyrical flow, which effortlessly rolls along with the track. Just to really let you know that it's an A-TRAK joint, every now and then the track drops out to a vinyl scratch solo by the DJ before picking up again.

It's not only this track, oh no - The iconic rapper and producer are joining forces for an entire EP release entitled 'Federal Reserve'. While there's no hard date set for release - so far all the info we got is it'll be out in the 'spring-time' - just the prospect of these two legends coming together collaboratively is enough to get us all excited.

Stay tuned.
