Live Review: LISTEN: Boys Noize 'What You Want' (Jimmy Edgar Dub Remix)

9 January 2014 | 6:32 pm | Nick Luke

German techno legend BOYS NOIZE announces 'Out Of The Black: The Remixes', and releases JIMMY EDGAR remix of 'What You Want'.

The mammoth entity that is BOYS NOIZE recently announced (to much fanfare and excitement) a remix counterpart to his 2012 album 'Out Of The Black'.

Now, if this wasn't enough to make all you techno-heads wet your pants, than the news of the freshly released JIMMY EDGAR dub remix of 'What You Want' from the remix album will certainly get you going.

In true EDGAR fashion, the producer takes the minimalist approach to the remixing game, only grabbing snippets of sound from the original and recrafting an entirely re-imagined techno banger from the remains.

Despite the chopped up nature of the samples, you can definitely still feel the raw essence of the original tune and the sounds that drove it to the modern day classic it is today.

Rife with robotic vocal samples and 909 kick drums, the JIMMY EDGAR dub remix is truly the definition of modern computer music. Awash with distortion and dissonant tones, it is the evil twin to the original tune - unrelenting and ever-moving, locked under a momentous 4/4 grid.

With remixes from electronic gods such as JUSTICE, CHROMEO, THE CHEMICAL BROTHERS, OLIVER and more, it's exciting to see that this powerful JIMMY EDGAR dub remix is just the tip of iceberg.

Out Of The Black: The Remixes is due to drop on Boys Noize Records in February 2014.
