WATCH: David Bowie ‘Love Is Lost’ (James Murphy Remix)
Although LCD SOUNDSYSTEM frontman JAMES MURPHY is technically ‘retired’ from music, the legend has been involved with a bunch of small projects which have all had a wonderful final product.
One such project may get you more excited than you have been in a very, very long time. JAMES MURPHY has done what many electronic artists would probably kill to do, the man has remixed the one and only DAVID BOWIE.
BOWIE and MURPHY have been working together quite a lot over recent months, which mainly involved ARCADE FIRE‘s new album Reflektor. JAMES MURPHY has done a great job on this new remix of ‘Love Is Lost’ and it’s this sort of effort that makes us miss LCD SOUNDSYSTEM and the great tracks they used to produce.
It goes for a phenomenal 10 minutes and features some wonderful synth work. DAVID BOWIE has just released a music video for the remix, which is also called the ‘Hello Steve Reich Remix’, and the wonderful vocal track just illuminates the entire video. The remix itself involves some very glitchy synths that dance well with a soft melody that is created underneath the glitches. The whole track flows so well and when you listen to it you are reminded of DAVID BOWIE‘s artistic approach to music.
As for the video, it’s really a digital assault on the senses. Beginning with just a simple shot of black and white hands clapping, those hands soon evolve into digital representations of hands before breaking into a full electronic wave of shapes gliding a long a black path.
Unlike a lot of artists of today, DAVID BOWIE still makes you think. He’s very out there and doesn’t try to hide his idea of music and just flaunts what he has. JAMES MURPHY is fairly similar in the way that he’s approached this remix. This is a duo that have the power to do something great when working together.
