Live Review: LISTEN: Rainbow Chan 'Haircut' (Nick Zinner Remix)

28 November 2013 | 10:51 pm | Tom Hutchins

It's been a big year for Rainbow Chan. And as a final hurrah, she's set to release a string of remixes from the Long Vacation EP, beginning with 'Haircut'.

Silo Arts tell us that "It's been a big year for Rainbow Chan. She's released her debut EP Long Vacation to critical acclaim, funded a successful kickstarter, toured Australia & New Zealand, and blown everyone away at Bigsound." Couldn't say it better ourselves really.

Yep, RAINBOW CHAN, has essentially, been killing it all year long. The Sydney based songstress has taken herself from being a relatively unknown local artist to being one of the most talked about acts here and overseas. Big name outlets like, Clash, Pigeons and Planes, Fader have been repping her EP, hailing all the pop sensibilities, beautiful vocals and supreme production.

Now, as a final hurrah if you will, Silo and Chan are set to release a string of remixes from the Long Vacation EP, beginning with 'Haircut', as reimagined here by Nick Zinner. You may know him from such legendary NYC indie rock band, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs.

Zinner's approach is a relatively subtle one, but none the less a solid one. He takes the original melodic strength, leaving the majority of Chan's stellar vocals (why would you get rid of them??) - and adds in some metallic percussion as well as some flutes and tropical rhythms. The result is a balearic rising dance track, that still manages to have an air of melancholy to it.
