Live Review: WATCH: Sigur Ros 'Rafstraumur' (Cyril Hahn Remix)

18 October 2013 | 3:20 pm | Lauren Payne

Cyril Hahn has decided to remix a wonderful Sigur Ros track, which also has an accompanying video that features strange animated creatures.

The Icelandic trio SIGUR ROS have always been a somewhat magical band. Their sweet melodies paired with mysterious lyrics pull at your heart strings and make you delve into a world filled with grassy hilltops and pure blue water... basically paradise.

SIGUR ROS definitely carry the aura of their home country with them everywhere they go and you can hear that in their music. Their latest LP Kveikur is a edgier release than their softer Takk.. and Gobbeldigook. There are some heavier drums and crunchier sounds just bursting through their melodic guitar patterns and lead-singer Jonsi's high vocals.

It's a refreshing album and it seems to have caught the eye of Swiss producer CYRIL HAHN, who has now created a remix for SIGUR ROS' track 'Rafstraumur'.

CYRIL HAHN has chopped up some of the vocal tracks at the beginning of the track whilst also adding some lovely house synths that completely turn the usual atmosphere of SIGUR ROS on it's head. The synths bounce over Jonsi's vocals and the chopped vocal tracks are brought in many time throughout the track and serve brilliantly. CYRIL HAHN has added more of a house effect to 'Rafstraumur' than anything and it seems to suit the track quite well. It flows brilliantly and I guess that's why I'm listening to it for the fifth time now.

The accompanying video to the remix is something you would most definitely know to be SIGUR ROS. The video was created using animations of dogs with illuminati heads and various other symbolic images created by Sigga Björg Sigurðardóttir, a brilliant Icelandic artists. the animation depicts a wonderful world of strange creatures and symbolic messages that is perfectly suited to a SIGUR ROS track. CYRIL HAHN has also done a wonderful job of remixing a band that is very rarely used in remixes, probably because their music is already so complex.
