We all experienced the end of an era with the devastating news that The Velvet Underground founder/poet/all round legend LOU REED passed away just the other night.

It’s touching to see just how much of an influence he truly was on so many people, as respects have been publicly paid all throughout the media. With this has come tributes dedicated to the man, including this incredibly heart-warming response from Brooklyn’s TWIN SHADOW – a cover of Reed‘s ‘Perfect Day’.

Beautifully executed, we’re faced with the raw and powerful delivery of Twin Shadow‘s vocals, as he sings into the recording mic backed up by an organ and simple beat. Extremely stripped down, this tear-jerker is everything it should be, as the lack of distraction and production have encapsulated the artist’s compassion; allowing it to shine through tastefully.

Clearly meaning a great deal to the artist, Twin Shadow posted on his socials,

My life was definitely saved by rock n roll. Thank you Lou. And then, thank you again.

‘Perfect Day’ features on Lou Reed‘s seminal record Transformer, released in 1972 via RCA.

Words by Hannah Galvin.
