Live Review: LISTEN: Spoonty 'Infinite Bliss'

25 October 2013 | 10:47 am | Nick Luke

LISTEN to Spoonty's debut album 'INFINITE BLISS' available for free download.

Blue Mountains native, SPOONTY has been very busy of late. Releasing 2 EP's already this year, as well as playing a tonne of shows, and now releasing his 3rd EP release entitled 'Infinite Bliss'. Guaranteed to be the #rarest and most #emotional thing you'll hear all day.

Filled to the brim with lush textures and samples, the density within 'Infinite Bliss' shines through in each of his well-constructed tracks. Glittery soundscapes, coupled with fun and bouncy vocal samples dominate the EP, all of this is then crisply wrapped up in a head-nod-inducing hip-hop vibe.

Stylistically speaking, it's reminiscent of Gold Panda's earlier music, especially when it comes to the finesse of SPOONTY's sampling work. Although, in terms of aesthetic and vibe, personally I felt that this was in a similar vein to the baby-faced Swedish internet-rapper Yung Lean, but where that is profoundly sad in its tone, 'Infinite Bliss' acts as a sort of polar opposite cousin to this type of rap. #happyboys instead of #sadboys, the ying to its yang.

The sounds present within 'Infinite Bliss' are varied deep and wide throughout, from oriental sounds, to ethereal cosmic scapes, to even playful Super Mario 64-inspired sounds (which all work so well).

All in all, SPOONTY's debut album 'Infinite Bliss' is a stellar example of the forward thinking electronic music coming out of Australia at the moment, and what's even more enticing is that SPOONTY has been gracious enough to make his EP available for free download via his bandcamp! Now you have no excuse to get the happy vibes flowing.
